About Our Farm

Welcome to Lacroix Aquaponics, Northwestern Ontario’s first and only aquaponics farm dedicated to growing premium greens in an enclosed, environmentally controlled environment. As a family-owned and operated business, we take pride in pioneering sustainable farming practices that benefit both our community and the planet. At Lacroix Aquaponics, we harness the natural synergy between fish and plants to create a thriving ecosystem. Our rainbow trout provide essential nutrients for our baby greens, acting as a natural fertilizer source. This closed-loop system ensures that our plants grow in optimal conditions, free from synthetic chemicals and pesticides. The result is a bounty of crisp, fresh greens that are as delicious as they are nutritious. The innovative aquaponics method we use offers numerous benefits. It conserves water by recirculating it through the system, significantly reducing the amount needed compared to traditional farming. Our controlled environment allows us to grow year-round, providing consistent, high-quality produce regardless of the season. Additionally, by operating locally, we reduce the carbon foot print associated with food transportation, ensuring that our customers receive the freshest possible products. As a pioneer in sustainable agriculture, Lacroix Aquaponics is committed to advancing environmentally friendly farming techniques. We invite you to experience the future of farming today, with produce grown right here in Northwestern Ontario by a family that cares deeply about quality, innovation, resiliency, and sustainability for our community, its members, and our future generations.

What is aquaponics?

Aquaponics is a farming method that combines raising fish and growing plants together in one
connected system. The fish produce waste, which contains ammonia. Special beneficial bacteria in the
system break down this ammonia into nitrites and then to nitrates, which are nutrients that the plants
need to grow. The plants absorb these nutrients, helping to clean and filter the water before it returns
to the fish tanks. It’s a sustainable way to grow food because it uses less water, doesn’t need chemical
fertilizers, and supports a healthy ecosystem. At Lacroix Aquaponics, we use this method to grow fresh,
healthy greens and raise rainbow trout, all while being gentle on the environment.
